too long

Hey everyone! I know its been a while since this blog has been updated and I'm very sorry about that, but its just so hard to keep up with stuff going on at university and blogging, but we are trying our best! So right now it's Thanksgiving Weekend, and I've just completed my first midterm, which didn't go all that bad, pretty good actually.

So let me catch you up on some of the exciting things that are happening:

Party tomorrow night with all my high school buddies (uber excited!) I'm probably going to die doing DDR and Rockband while eating excessive amounts of pizza! I'm so excited to see everyone again and I can assure you that there will most definitely be a show down of school spirit: Carleton U vs. Ottawa U.
Ravens going head to head with the Geegees. Its going to be a battle of epic proportions!

Back to the blogging world:
Anyways as Room 139 promises to blog about celebrities, fashion and anything else really here's my latest take on fall fashion:

Boots

Lots and lots of boots! I honestly can't get enough of them, though I do currently own over six pairs. Yet I'm still dying to get another!

Apart from boots I'm totally loving the new shipment of 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall series at Barney's, all the greys and charcoal blacks are sending me into a freinzy! And BCBG's Knit Wear, to die for!

As for news on celebrities:
You may not be familiar with him but he is a world wide known designer, having offices in New York City and Milan. He is an Alumni from Carleton University's School of Industrial Design, and he is none other than Karim Rashid! I remember seeing him on fashion television and the Design show but never thought I'd ever see him in person, but I will :) He's doing a lecture and presentation at Carleton University in November and I can't WAIT!!! After third year I hope to intern with him! It would be such an amazing experience.

Have an amazing Thanks Giving Weekend

Better Late than Never

So sorry for not posting more, but university has taken a turn down the road of "no more spare time" and "reading lane". Trying to stay on top of all the readings has been insane! And I'm failing at it.

Living in rez has been FANTASTIC, love my floor and my roomie :)
I've already won $50 in giftcards since I've been in rez and I have yet to spend any of it. I haven't been to any crazy parties yet, considering I go home on the weekends, I kind of miss out on them.....Oh well.
I'm already getting sick of the cafeteria food and that reminds me, that I should probably go for lunch before my next class.

time to crack down...?

So I see my 2 other better halves have not been able to blog recently, so I though I may as well let you guys know that we haven't fallen off the face of the earth or anything.

University is getting more overwhelming by the minute, as I have been watching the labs, quizzes, papers, and the unspoken everyday homework we are supposed to do just pile up.  Chemistry is well, tiring.  Enough said.  I think I am still trying to find my golden studying technique or hoping that I will be sitting in class one day and just have an epiphany.  Either way, I suppose the key to success is just staying on top of my classes and always being one step ahead.  If I can keep up to begin with.

The partying is well, there.  I don't think there has been a night without a party in my tower come to think of it.  But the people here are pretty chill and I am really thankful for my room in the penthouse (6th floor) for when those crazy nights get a little too out of control.  Plus, I finally got my cable hooked up a week ago!! I love having a tv, despite the distraction it may be.  It is nice just to relax and unwind with one of my shows or just watch mindless tv to help you fall asleep.

So I guess I will leave you guys with that, hopefully there are a select few of you out there that are still following this blog!! To whoever is, thanks so much for continuing to support us!!

Cottage, O-Week, and everything in between.

Hey guys!!!!!  So it's been a month (yes, a MONTH) since I have last blogged, but boy do I have a lot to talk about now.

So The Rideau Lakes resort was amazingggg! And the American couple we met there 2 years ago just happened to be up that week as well!  We went walking with Chinook to the Locks, she went swimming, our friend's dog (our friend Suzanne came up for a night) fell in the locks, I nearly fell in trying to save the ball, and I'm pretty sure I flashed everyone watching the chaotic scene as a result.  I also learned how to play this card game called Pay The Man, and let me tell you, it is one intense game, and really hilarious when you get to watch your mom slowly drift away from reality because she is drunk out of her mind.  Speaking of intense games, BINGO is one crazy game when you're playing for money.  I swear the same people kept winning and by the end of it there were a select few that I wanted to get even with lmao.

Oh and the best part was by far when I dropped my cell phone in the lake, while fishing with Suzanne.  At first I was in shock just staring at my phone siking farther and farther into the lake, and when I finally realized what was happening, it was too late.  I definetely learned my lesson though: never put valuable electronics in a flimsy cardigan pocket.

So my mom and I came back on a Friday night (and I drove all the way home!!!) and then it was off to my bf's place for 8 days on that Sunday.  The weather was terrible meeting up with him, but I had such a spectacular time, I can't wait to go back. :)

We somehow did groceries, considering his idea of grocery shopping is standing in an aisle for 3 hours trying to remember what he needed in the first place.  It was funny watching him try to shop, and I couldn't help but think he was cute.  We went for a drive on tuesday night, which was really relaxing and a nice change from being in the house all the time, and on Wednesday night we went to see The Expendables, a movie I didn't think I would enjoy but that was really good.  Action and bits of comedy all rolled together into one.

Thursday was officially his long weekend away from work, so what is an electrician/handyman to do with all his spare time?  Work on his house of course.  He ripped out the old siding around his garage and put in freshly painted cedar wood, which looked amazing at the end.  Then we got pizza and some beer and chilled the rest of the night. :)

The weekend was packed with boats, boats and more boats, and exploring the islands around Lake Simcoe, islands I never knew existed after all these years.  I met so many great people and the memories made were filled with laughs and fun times.

So this post is shaping up to be a novel, but unfortunately I'm not even close to done (well, maybe I am).  So I got back from Lake Simcoe 13 days ago, only to go home and pack, pack, pack for the next 4 days because I moved to Guelph!!!  Now 4 days seems like enough right?? Well wrong actually, when you consider that most of that time was taken up by hanging out with friends one last time and going to last-minute appointments.  Oh the joys of having braces and prescription meds.

Finally the big moving day came, with Fatima to thank for helping me get organized on my last night.  There were tears and laughs and a lot of driving, but now I am finally settling into Guelph.  I must say I'm nervous about all the work I have to do in the coming months, but hopefully things will work out for the best and I will be successful in my future endeavours.  Guelph is a great place to be and I couldn't be happier with the decision I made.

Much love to all my friends back in OTTAWA!!! I love and miss you all and will see you soon. :) <3

FROSH WEEK :)

First off, move in was quite painless and I'm loving my new room, and room mate.
Secondly, I'm super excited to tell you guys all about the last two days, which is the debut of my university career.
After moving in there were multiple activites for us to participate in. I ended up doing the Carleton University  Residence Scavenger Hunt  and BINGO (at which I've won a $25 gift certificate to Starbucks *woot*)
Today was the official opening of Frosh week. I'm doing the general frosh, and this year's theme is Circus. I'm on the Lions team. We had a BBQ to kick off this evenings events which included a Ravenpalooza, a peprally, a soccer game against Ottawa U and we beat them (2-0). I think that success was due to our extensive spirit and cheers. And lastly, a Much Music Video Dance Party :)

Super fun and I'm extremely exhausted so...

Salty Goodness

Ever gone swimming and left to pool with a cholrine scent that just doesn't go away?
Solution to this problem, go to a salt water pool.

Today I went to the salt water pool at The Brookstreet Hotel in Ottawa and it was AMAZING! It's a bit pricey but well worth it. For just $15 (its an all day thing) you have access to the gym, the outdoor pool, the indoor pool, the indoor hot tub, the special hot tub in the change room, and the sauna. The salty water relaxed my muscles and I was floating along in bliss. I was only there for 2-3 hours today but I can't wait to spend a whole day there :)

Work

Almost done! One more day left, it's kinda sad in a way, I guess. It'll mean no more waking up early for the next week, but no more time spent with coworkers and knowing that summer is drawing to a close. *sigh*

But I did hear a really funny line at work, its from a movie and relates to math. Get ready to bust a gut :)

A guy goes up to a girl at a party and says, "What up?"
She replies with "Not much"
He then goes on saying: "How about I add you with me, subtract the clothes, divide your legs, and let's multiply!"
I thought it was the funniest thing ever, obviously no one would say this in real life, but if anyone did, they won't be talking for a while!

It's going going going....into the suitcase

Its that time of year again, prepping for school. This year I've decided to live in rez, so this should be interesting! I never knew packing could be so hard! I have so much clothes (like WAY too much!) and I'm torn between what I need and what I want to bring! It's all going in one large suitcase and I just spent the last 4 hours with my friend packing, and unpacking until I've finally got the basics down. Shirts, and pants are done but there's still so much more left like bedding, textbooks, school supplies......and the list keeps on going! This is going to be one exhausting job!

Chicago!

Hey everyone :)

Let me share with you my summer vacation =D
It started last Sunday at the airport, flew on this tiny plane to Chicago and that's when all the fun started.
Getting off the plane I was greeted by buskers who were playing their saxophones and rapping to some unknown mix of techno and pop. I stayed at the Essex Inn, it was really nice with a pool and sauna :)
We went sightseeing all around Chicago. Some of the places we visited are: Millennium Park, Sear's Tower, The Magnificient Mile, China Town, the Field Museum, Navy Pier, Lakeshore and North Avenue Beach are just some of the places we saw around town.

Now I did mention a movie set, and that movie set was (drum roll please) TRANSFORMERS 3!!!!!!!
I didn't even realize that Transformers was shot in Chicago, but then again, I haven't watched Transofrmers 1 or 2 (Yes I know, it's a crime....don't yell at me!) I even tried sneaking over the caution tape to take better pictures but the security guard caught me and I was so scared that she was going to sit on me and I'd die. It's not fair! Even she (the security guard) was taking photos, talk about corrupt!

Well, enough about me talking so here are some photos I'd like to share with you:

Did you miss me? Of course you did =P (joking!)
So I'm officially back from Chicago and I can't wait to tell you all about it! I'll drop some hints though:
It includes movie sets, shopping (of course) and getting lost in a wonderfully architectural city ( oh, and did i mention a movie set? ;D)

And blogging seems to have taken a back seat...?

Man oh man, I think it's been a good month since I've blogged.
Yeah, let's just say A LOT of things have happened since then.

First of all, I went to Toronto (Lake Simcoe) for a week in mid-July to visit my godfamily.  Now since I've grown up, I just haven't really been feeling the cottage scene, until this summer.  Long story short, I met (well met again, more in-depth) our neighbour across the street who happens to be my godmother's nephew and it turns out we've been dating for 3 weeks now.  That week was probably one of the most tumultuous, crazy-good, and romantic weeks I have ever had in my life.  It was so fun to just be up in the country and swim in the crystal-clear, sandy bottom lake almost everyday, relaxing in the hammock or just enjoying the scenery from Mike's backyard.

I honestly believe I fell in love with the countryside for the first time in my life, because the feeling I got was unexplainable and I just can't wait to go back (in 11 days, actually :D:D).  So I got back home, feeling lonely and trying to get used to the fact that I was in a relationship, and having to face my mom.  (Did I mention that he's 5 and a half years older than me)?  But let me just say, I can't thank my mom enough for being there for me over the past 6 or so months.  She really has been having a hard time getting used to me growing up and moving on with my life (trust me, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it).  But she is doing the best she can, and I really appreciate having her there to talk about anything and giving me the freedom I need.

So for the Civic Holiday weekend, Mike surprised me and came up to visit for 3 days!  I got to show him around Ottawa and we got to talk a lot and just enjoy each other's company.  It was a great time.  And my friends (Char and Fatima) have been a constant of course, hanging out, SHOPPING (I'm literally penny-pinching off my mother right now), and workk!!!!!!!!!

4 days from now I will be done done done!!!!!!!!!!  No more Timothy's, although I must say it has been a hell of a ride and I will miss everyone.  On Monday my mom and I are going up to a resort on the Rideau Lakes for a week, then I have a birthday to come back to, and then I'm off to Lake Simcoe to see the bf! :)

This summer has certainly shaped up to be one of the best I have ever had, and I just hope they keep getting better.

xoxoxoxoxoxo, Melissa

P.S. School shopping has definetely been a source of my debt, I really understand the concept of money being here one minute, and gone the next.

Busy as a Bee

WOW! I've neglected this blog for so long!

I've just been so busy with, well, life. Working this summer full-time really leaves no time to have much of a social life, but I think I'm managing. I saw Inception recently, and that was Amazing! Mind blowing! Literally, it went KA-POW! And just yesterday I saw Sharks 3D in IMAX, it was real cool especially since shark week was just here on discovery channel. It's really sad how all sharks are endangered yet feared. They are really interesting and important creatures in the underwater ecosystem, which our lives depend on. I've been to a few, well one, park social so far, which was Beach Volleyball day, and I dressed up for our theme (Dirty Sanchez). I've finally gotten my wish and went to the beach, where it did end up raining and thundering, but we survived. Have you ever realized that it's really hard to run in the sand, but is an extremely effective method of toning your legs? Anyways, Banquet and Boat Cruise is coming up for parks, and I'm super excited for the Banquet, since I'm probably skipping out on Boat Cruise.....

Work has just been extremely hectic and quite interesting, we would get these really slow days at the pool and then really busy days. But I'm glad that I'm going on vacation this coming week (a much deserved break). I'm heading off to Chicago for a week and will probably be living off deep-dish pizza for a while YUM! =D I'm hoping to get some back to school shopping done without breaking the bank considering next year is Uni and that just eats up everyone's money.

Tomorrow I'm off to my friend's 17th birthday party and Friday I'm hoping to be hitting up IKEA to pump up my room in rez. I'll blog the rest of my summer adventures later!

Ciao,

A little something ♪ over the rainbow ♫

After work, my mom and I rushed down to Lebreton Flats to see a free concert featuring Nikki Yanofsky and Time for Three. It was FANTASTIC! I absolutely loved Nikki, she's so talented and wonderful. In between songs she'd talk a bit about herself, try to speak in french and was ever so cute. I love that she's so down-to-earth and easy going. She is so gorgeous and so lucky to be dressed by DSquared, I absolutely loved her outfit tonight which was a black sequin dress. Though I do find that she wears way too much black for a 16 year old.... When she sang I Believe, it was wonderful! Even better than the recording, she's just so talented, I wish her the best of luck in the future!!

Here's a video about her from CNN, she's amazing and I'm proud to say that she is a CANADIAN!!! =)

And here is her FIRST ever music video, and at the concert tonight, she said that the director had given her casting papers to choose the guy in the video, (she made a great choice ;P ) but sadly she said that he arrived on set... with his GF.

Me and My Boredom

I'm currently watching storm clouds swirling and rolling on by. I have this weird fascination in watching storms, the lightening strikes, the sounds of thunder, simply mesmerizing!

Unfortunately I didn't end up working today due to this lovely weather; there goes my $82 =(
But I did get some stuff done over the course of three days (Mon-Wed)

Monday:
Cleaned and cleaned. My room is, well was, spotless and all my clothes has been placed back in my closest and such.... The kitchen is clean of my baking mess and the bathroom is rid of my clutter on the counter tops. Soccer in the evening, sadly we lost once again.

Tuesday:
Got inspired by Threadbangers to make some plush toys. I made these three little monsters, aren't they cute? the first one is my fav :) here's the pattern link: http://images.cutoutandkeep.net/cutoutandkeep/pdfs/monster.pdf
I modified some of it, and now my monsters are even cuter :)
Weeded the garden and watched my new fav show: Pretty Little Liars (since Glee's not on)

Wednesday:
Well, today.....nothing really, made a mess of my room already and gave my chem notes to Fatima. Soccer practice, cool thunder, and I saw a cloud shaped as an elephant, and at home this claw-like cloud, it looked like it came straight from Harry Potter :P

I realized that I should really stop watching TV. When I get bored I just rot in front of the tube. It's SO bad! And I am now hooked on this show called Pretty Little Liars on MuchMusic. Lame show, but soooo much drama, I can't stop!!!!

Avenged Sevenfold!

So many people don't know this about me but I am a closet metal head. I guess it's the crazy guitar solos or the impossible drum solos that really attract me to heavy metal. My all time favourite heavy metal band is definitely Avenged Sevenfold. I really like how they take great guitar sounds and pair it with the lead singers raspy yet strong voice. Plus, their songs are not all screamo and some of their songs really can tug at your heart strings. Their new album, Nightmare, is being released July 27 so i'm super excited for that! It was so sad to hear that the band's drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Suillivan passed away this year. We love you Jimmy and rest in peace. I really enjoy this band and I hope this post gets people interested the band. A7x for life :)

Some of my personal favourites

  • A little piece of heaven
  • Seize the day
  • Dear God
  • Nightmare
  • Unholy Confessions                                 m. shadows, lead singer
  • Warmness on the soul
  • Bat country
  • Gunslinger

that goes where?!

SEX SEX SEX! I think more families should have open conversations about sex and sexuality. In my family, sex is not an everyday dinner conversation but it isn't a topic we avoid like the plague. In the movies you see parents awkwardly trying to avoid the trademark question, "where do babies come from?". I think it's fine to let your kid learn about the birds and the bees from really any age. Well of course not as young as babies because unless you speak goo gah blargh (drool), they will not understand you. It all depends on how much description you want to give them at that point in time. Kids will always know more about sex than their parents want them to. If you start early with sexual education, you can help your child to avoid making mistakes in the future and help the child become more mature in this sex-crazed society.

Boredom & Breaking the Bank

Hey everyone!! Sorry CFM has been incognito for the past week, you would think we would be blogging in our nice, air conditioned homes with the 40+ degree weather we have been having.
However, being locked up at home does have it's downsides, and so Fatima and I decided to roam around Ottawa all week.  First was good old College Square on Tuesday night, where I spent a good $140.  I must admit though, I got some good steals, including some jean shorts, a nice top, and 2 skirts.  Next was venturing to Barrhaven last night to get some university ideas.  Fatima ended up buying storage, etc. for the fall, while I got plenty of ideas (couldn't spend any of my non-existant money after the night before).  It was a fun day, despite the disgusting humidity.

Tonight we were going to go to the pool, but I forgot it hadn't been completely renovated yet, so we hopped on a 95 and went to Place D'Orleans for 3 hours, went back towards downtown and went to Rideau, then came home.

I must say it has been a fun week, much better than staying home, despite the weather.  I just have to work on controlling my shopping urges.

♫ Here Comes the Bride ♫

Is it just me or are weddings getting more extravagant and expensive each year? It seems that everyone wants to top everybody else. It’s no longer solely focused on the whole aspect of loving your spouse forever, it’s about having the most amazing wedding ever, that everyone will forevermore remember. The memory of your wedding may last longer than your actual marriage.

The trend can be seen quite clearly in the media. You here of stars spending millions on just their wedding rings (got to have the biggest rock in Hollywood). Shows like: Say Yes to the Dress, Rich Bride Poor Bride, and Battle of the Wedding Designers; are feeding a new generation of girls who are already imaging their perfect day which comes with a cost. That cost isn’t even known to these girls! The wedding industry is pushing to gain more money, and its working!
On average, a newlywed couple in Canada, spends $20 000 on their weddings. That’s a lot of money! The cost for just the wedding dress of the bride alone can range from $500 to $10 000 (or more). Not to mention the cost for location, photos, food and drinks, invitations, decorations, transportation, rings, and the list goes on and on and on.....

Better start saving up soon!

And then all you’ll need to worry about, is saying “I do!”.
