Are the Disney Princesses a good influence? was a statement I was greeted with when I arrived at school from my friends at 7:30AM. An argument brought up from the means of today's society which is so based on body image. Comments were thrown to and fro.
With scantily clad Ariel and Jasmine, would you want your kids to watch them?
Sure, why not?
When you're a 4 year-old, you're not focused on body image or that hourglass figure most women desire. You just want to prance around in a pretty pink dress while singing your heart's content. Begging your mommy or daddy to buy you that perfect tiara to place upon your head or wishing you could fly.
I used to have those wishes and sometimes still do. Who wouldn't want to escape reality for instances in time and go swimming with the fishes or fly along with Peter Pan to Netherland?
I believe Disney Princesses are adequate role models for kids and now that Disney has expanded the cultural aspect, we have Mulan and the Frog Princess to add to the great list of princesses which we admire for the stories they share.
